Bernard Hill, Star of The Film Titanic, Dies at The Age of 79

Know Your Idol – Senior British actor and star of the film Titanic, Bernard Hill, has died at the age of 79. The actor who also starred in the film Lord of The Rings died on Sunday morning, May 5 2024 local time. However, it is not yet known what caused this senior actor’s death.

“It is with the greatest sadness that we must announce that Bernard Hill, the renowned actor known for his roles in ‘Titanic’ and ‘Lord of the Rings,’ passed away early this morning at the age of 79,” Bernard Hill’s family said in a statement.

During his lifetime, Bernard Hill played Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning film Titanic and King Theoden in Lord of the Rings. Hill began his career as an actor in 1982 and played a role in the show Boys from the Blackstuff. He plays Yosser Hughes, a character who struggles and often fails to overcome unemployment in Liverpool.

Bernard Hill’s death also left deep sorrow, especially for the stars of the film Lord of the Rings. Actors, namely Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd, even paid tribute to Hill at Comic Con in Liverpool, England.

“We love him. He’s brave, he’s funny, he’s rude, he’s short-tempered, he’s handsome,” they said.

It is known that Bernard Hill was supposed to attend the Liverpool Comic Con FOR4D event on Saturday (4/5/2024). However, Hill canceled his schedule at the last minute.

Bernard Hill was also reported to have died on Sunday (5/5/2024) at the age of 79 years.
