Bella Hadid Sues Adidas

Know Your IdolBella Hadid will sue Adidas after being criticized for advertising running shoes inspired by a controversial 1972 Munich Olympics design. He is reported to have appointed a lawyer to take firm action against the German brand.

Reporting from US Magazine, Monday (22/7/2024), Bella Hadid believes that Adidas is not transparent enough in its collaboration in the latest advertisement in which she stars. She was annoyed because the company presented advertisements related to the Munich Massacre tragedy at the 1972 Olympics. Bella felt that Adidas had spearheaded a cruel campaign, and went against herself, who always preached peace.

“Violence is not in line with Bella’s views. It is the company’s responsibility to properly examine their own campaign and the historical events surrounding it,” said a source.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid’s sister doesn’t mind that her photo is missing from the ad. However, he was upset that Adidas was referring to the Munich Massacre at the 1972 Olympics, unbeknownst to him. On the other hand, the company later claimed that any link made between the advertising campaign for the re-released Olympic special edition shoes and the tragic events of 1972 was completely unintentional.

As is known, Adidas drew criticism from Israel and other countries for not only including the 27-year-old model, who is of Palestinian descent, in the ad, but also for using the 1972 Olympics as inspiration despite the terrorist attacks that occurred at the event. Israel condemned the ad, as well as Bella’s involvement, on their X account on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Adidas later apologized for the ad and said that they would revise the rest of the shoe ad.

“We recognize that there is a connection between tragic events in history even though it was completely unintentional and we apologize for any disappointment or sadness this may cause,” Adidas said in a statement.

“We believe in sport as a unifying force throughout the world and will continue to strive to champion diversity and equality in everything we do,” he continued.

The 1972 Olympics are best remembered for the tragic massacre that occurred just a week after the multi-sport event began. On September 5 of that year, eight members of the Palestinian militant group Black September took 11 Israeli athletes and coaches hostage, and all the victims were later killed. A German policeman was also killed. Meanwhile, the new Adidas ad shows Bella wearing SL72 sneakers while holding a bouquet of flowers and standing in front of a red background.

“Giving flowers to Bella Hadid with SL72 shoes,” Adidas tweeted before removing the ad from social media.
